WFMU needs $100,000 or someone is going to need a cane or I am going Balls Out
so it turned out that last sunday's last volleyball game was also my season ender, (catch the Garden State Roller girls this Friday for their season ender) my ankle is on the mends and neither this Mondays, The Pagan Thanksgiving Dinner or next Mondays, Saints and Sinners Party at my apartment will be canceled. The Pagan Thanksgiving is a communal dinner with a 20 year college tradition that will be passed on to future Derelict's, and my Post Thanksgiving - Black Friday Party is on it's 10th year or so. Email me at rockitdocket(at)gmail.com if you have any culinary questions, or want to help in the party manning. Similarly, Made is with Love has been sharing tables for their monthly communal dinner for three months now, check out this story from the Hudson Reporter.
putting dinner on the table isn't the concern of WFMU, but keeping Jersey City's free form radio station running is the focus of their 24-hour marathon today. click here to donate.
Speaking of manning up, check out the links on the side about, getting involved to make Jersey City, more bike friendly. Local bike tour Easy Riders has an on line petition to get the wheels rolling on providing better, roads, routes, rack, and respect for JC Bikers. Unlike the one party rule nations in vacation places like Myanmar and Sudan, Jersey City has a host of citizen run committees to help get Jersey City get it together. On Thursday, Civic JC as well as the Downtown Neighborhood Coalition and the Height Coalition are hosting a "Call to Service" forum to get local residents involved. The one hour forum begins at 7 pm and being run with the assistance of City Clerk Robert Byrne.
The Jersey Call to Service focuses on four opportunities to serve Jersey City, they are: 1) Serving on an appointed local board or commission; 2) Serving as a neighborhood-level party committeeperson; 3) Becoming a citizen legislator by devising a constructive common-interest proposal and presenting it to a relevant government body; and 4) Serving as a "Citizen Journalist" to report from the frontlines what is happening in City Hall.
Along the same lines, later on Thursday, I will be convening a Bro's before Hoes Convention at the Lamppost. While Leonard Smalls may enjoy the scent of an "Ocean Breeze" candle for Lucky Seven's Ladies Night. I'll be catering to those of us who would rather smell musk. Make sure you bring your set of balls for the $2 domestic draft $3 whiskey shots. In order to provide some type of legitMANcy for this event, I'll be operating as DJ ManthonyVito and alternating my Thursdays with a real man, Chuck from JC Tattoo on this gig.
Ladies do rule, and tonight (W), The Demands, Jahna Rain spins for Street Justice's DTJC Night at the Lamp Post. Jahna's former outfit, Mister Badger plays the Parkside lounge on the 23rd while Jahna's Demanding Friends, The Subway Surfer's celebrate Larry's birthday and play the Lamppost this Saturday Night. This Saturday's Vinyl Solution is also double the wax, in addition to with DJ William McCamie spinning, the White Star is also hosting the artist reception for their new art installation by Joe Waks. Check out his stuff.
While this Saturday, DJ George Soul Fernadez, debuts " Karma" at the La Hacienda (formerly ole on washington street). Dj auttie McNaughty will pump up O'Connell's on Saturday, and Justin case you were wondering, I'll be at Luckys with Leonard Smalls.
Down in New Brunswick this evening (W), The Neutron Drivers play the famed Court Tavern, Thomas Francis Takes His Chances, returns to their old home for two shows this weekend. Friday is at the Court Taverna nd Saturday a Basement Party awaits. TFTHC, plays the Leonard Small Birthday Party at Luckys on the 5th and then the 4th Street Ball at City Hall on December 10th. The Ball is a fundraiser that showcases some of the live art created by at the Festival earlier this year and Will be on display throughout December. Another Man Treasure is planning a fashion show for the event and is looking for some models to wear their wares. You can contact Meika at mail(at)anothermanstreasure.com if yu are interested.

get out and vote or even algebra needs closure
lower case i wanted to thank everyone who came out to the Ghost of Uncle Joe's Halloween Party at 58. The bands put on a great show that kept on building up with each set. You can catch Credence Clearwater Revivalists, Any Day Parade with Fairmont , Jessie Ian Dunn and other label mates for the Mint 400 Records showcase at at the Iron Monkey this Friday. On Wednesday, the sonics of the Neutron Drivers can be heard at LIT Lounge and Neil is burying his Zombie Billy Mays outfit and his digital DJ ways to return for this Saturday's Vinyl Solution at the White Star.
As usual, there were some very creative Halloween costumes at the party, Ali's, Lena's , Laura's and Orlando's facebook pictures will do them justice. Keep your costume heads on folks. The Friday after Thanksgiving (11/29) will be our annual apartment party at my place. This years theme is Saints and Sinners. As for 58, the Agitator's Collective ask Who Will Save Beauty on Friday the 13th.
LITM's artistist in residence, Ken Bastard's 4th solo exhibit, entitled The Machine debut tonight. There are roughly 100 panels that Ken had created backgrounds at Friday's Creative Grove Urban Art Market, the foregrounds are now Bastardized. There $3 wine specials from 7 to 10 pm. I've got the soundtrack for tonight. That means I need to hand things of to Rocker Tycoon, Zak Clark for the post Singer Songwriter Night at Lucky Sevens. Rainbow Fresh, who is opening up fro the Steve Miller Band the the Pac Center plays to groovy sets to set your tripadelics to.
Melissa Surach has returned from the Eastern Bloc, even more enlightened. Tonight, the House of Leaves open up Babyhole. Jersey City's Laziest Sketchgroup, Upset Triangle feauting Ghost of Uncle Joe's Clash Frontman Pat Byrne performs.
Trivia returns to the Golden Cicada tonight, Brian Boles Bartends whiel Pete Crosta asks the questions. My Question is did you vote today ? Please vote yes for on the Public Question regarding Green Spaces an support funding for spaces like the Embankment. Here's a link to the Embankment Preservations Coalition Page. Please vote yes, then you can ruin the rest of your life with the political choices.
Wednesday night, Rebecca Vallejo plays NYC Flanders House > I'll let her give you the details but did she just say it's on the 44th floor of the New York Times Building ?
I will be performing at the "Flanders House" (I know, one step closer to Belgium), with my great friend and excellent Saxophone player John Snauwaert, and with Jazz masters Roni Ben-Hur and Bob Mover. "Jazz it up with Flanders House "Nov 4th at 8pm The New York Times Building 620 Eighth Avenue, 44th Floorwww.flandershouse.org
The Cuban flavored rock of Delexilio is Live @ Camaradas on Thursday Night. in the heart of El Barrio ( 2241 First Avenue, near the corner of 115 Street, in the Spanish Harlem) They go on at at 10:30pm. Camaradas is a great venue where lots of NYC's cutting edge latin-rock acts are performing. It's a seriously cool place for art, culture, music, and it will catch you off guard with its hipness if you haven't been there yet.

boo with who ?
it already started, i was there, costume stores, haunted houses, and the stress of what should i be for Halloween, thankfully, i already know, now i just need some foam. If you haven't picked up your pumpkin, stop by the farmers market today at the the Grove PATH, bring the kids from 4to 6 pm for some Halloween themed fun and candy.
Thanks to Charles' (aka djLeonard Smalls) run in with a laboratory monkey? really? yes really? Apparently you shouldn't tease testy test monkeys, I guess a similar warning, like don't tap on the fish tank was missing and Charles got bit. He's okay but may not be able to monkey around for his own PJ party now, I've got double dj duty tonight. I am going to start at Lucky Sevens PJ Ladies Night. In order to keep his perfect attendance record in tact ? or maybe he really has gone ape ? Charles is going to come in at 10:30. barring a speedy recovery, and considering her can't dj, cant drink, and has a fever his visit will be brief, try and be there if you wish him well.
After Lucky's, I am heading back to the Lamp Post for my second shift with Steff " Street Justice " Kautmann is for our Bro's before Ho's night. She'll start the night off and we will Zan and Jayna for the rest of the night. At 7 : 30 pm you can catch a different combination on screen at the Warehouse's presentaion of y tu mama tambien . In the big city, Flaming Fire plays a Pagan Halloween Party on Ludlow, this doesn't sound like a bunch of posers either :).
On Friday, aka Cabbage Night, aka Mischeif Night, aka Night of the Fires, the Iron Monkey is organizing a Zombie Pub Crawl. the undead should show up at the Lamp Post at 4 pm-Luckys 6pm- Barrow-8pm O Connells 9:30 pm - Iron Monkey at 11 pm (with bands) (all Bar crawl and Halloween rules apply). If you prefer your bars stationary, there are two great parties to the east and west of us. Closer by far is the Carnival of Souls party in Kearny. Housed in the Freeman building , this 21 and up, Free affair will have room for all of your Souls and Sins. To the East, Rublad presents their own Freaky Friday party, I also hear there is a Danger Party for Halloween. Oh ! It's so hard to compete with those quick and clever city kids.
You won't die if you are in JC on Halloween. But with daylight savings giving us an extra hour you may be come close. Since I am contractually obligated to promote my own party first, here's the full skinny on Part's One and Two of the Ghost of Uncle Joe's Party. Like I said a thousand time, s over we start early so you can drink late and make your of the Halloween Parties.
Ghost of Uncle Joe's Halloween Party 58 Gallery
$ 5 suggested donation (a costume would be a good idea) BYOB OK
Here's the line up - times are sharp
8:00 Elvis Costello (Sean Square Wave Punch)
8:30 Tres de Magnifico (Pat Bryne, Nick and Augie)
8:45 Credence Clearwater Revival (Any Day Parade)

On Tuesday, I will dj-ing at LITM for Ken Bastard's latest opening. His new work features almost 100 new panels entitled the Machine. From speaking with him last week, this undertaking may be more time consuming than his last opening, in which he painted for 24 hours straight. Someone bring this guys a pillow. Hope to see you there.
Happy Halloween.

Tigersapien and Aminal play. On a similar note and purpose, JC (recording) Studios, opened up in at 143 Columbus, bands can email pat (citrus37-at-comcast.net to bopok the newly renovated space with 4 climate controled practice room. The studios are located just below, the Lex Leonard Gallery, take a visit after you wind back your clock and Saturday Night.
On Sunday, you can turn back the clock on baseball and visit an exhibition of vintage baseball by The Jersey City Skeeters. at Lincoln Park. My neighbor sent me this darling write up that I shall not attempt to plagiarise:
We play in games with rules established either in the 1860's or the 1900's in vintage old-style uniforms. We play teams from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. The team was started a few months ago by David Kerans . Dave is resurrecting the history and legacy of the Skeeters, a team that existed up until the 1930's. We are holding an open scrimmage and batting practice in Lincoln Park West field (on the west side of Route 440) this Sunday, November 1, 2009 from 1-3 P.M. and November 7&8, time to be determined.
Any prospects should contact David Kerans at 646-469-3464 or Peter Harrison at 917-576-7181.
This is a casual event for people that are interested in checking us out. They should not feel intimidated if they haven't played baseball in years. Hell, they'll have the winter to get into shape. They should come out and play ball. We want to get people interested in the team and stoke interest for next season.

On Sunday, Kelly St. Patrick will perform at at Made with Love Organics Sunday Brunch from 1 to 3pm. Their monthly communal dinner just got a nice review.
Happy Halloween.

the wurst blog yet
The sky's have opened up well for tonight's Oktoberfest on the Germain streets of Jersey City. Now on it's third or fourth year running, the events sponsors Paul and Erik Silverman (Exeter Properties) have been pouring draft and cooking bratwurst years before the Zeppelin landed. Dj William McCamie and special guests will be ein hand to schnitzel you good and feel free to break out your lieberhausen; there is no dress code on Grove Street.
Thursday Night Movies on the Wall series continues at the Warehouse (140 Bay ) at 7 :30 pm . Afterwards, my DJ Nemis Leonard Smalls hosts his two year with perfect attendance Ladies Night, his brother will be on hand to celebrate 30 years of living, I'll flow with the rest of the the bro's at the Lamp Post. See my previous post (below) about Rolando Ramos big show in Brooklyn tonight.
Pre Preview's for Newark's Open Doors Art Studio Tour start on Thursday Night. I have a official link posted here Friday Night, there is a Art Crawl from 6 to 9 pm. I am working with the Barat Foundation, on their reception at 765 Broad Street from 6 to 9 pm and then we will take things to a 407 Mulberry Street Warehouse space for and afterparty with live music from 10 to late. On Saturday Night, Gallery Aferro hosts 4 different exhibits, including works br Hiroshi Kumagai and Henry Sanchez. Other Gallery spaces like CWOW , 27 Mix , the SEED gallery , Newark Art King, Lowell Craig is having a Halloween bash this Saturday too. Retun, or just sleep in Newark for Sunday's Open Studio portion of the tour. If you don't want to Art Crawl, you can always watch the Brick City Brawlers ( Garden State Rollergirls All Stars ) skate against New Hampshire's Skate Free or die at Branch Brook Park in Newark.
Friday Night doesn't have to be a DWI night though, you can PATH to Newark, or simply bike or walk to the Warehouse for their art reception of How We Live from 6 to 9 pm. Afterwards saddle up again and head to Moonlight Miles studio's Autumn Party in Hoboken. The Pneurotics (from Chapel Hill, NC open things up at 10 pm with localists, WJ & The Sweet Sacrifice at 11 pm and then a midnight fight by Kill Kill Kill ( ex-boy/girl.....science's band from Los Angeles). In addition, Tris McCall will be on stage at Maxwell's on Friday playing new and cherished material. He's bringing the full band for back up too. Transporation options and musical missions merge on Friday Night when the Subway Surfer's host their anti- CMJ show at Otto's Shrunken head. Meanwhile, Hoboken's Stuyvesant, and the Neutron Drivers play the Trash Bar in Williamburg. The Golden Filetr also CMJams on Saturday Night at Santos Party House.
Answering the call of Oktoberfest, Hoboken's DC's Tavern is pouring a Saturday Afternoon Rocktoberfest, with free German Treats and hopefully more than Beck's and Beck's Light to choose from. Saturday Night, Steff and I will team up at the White Star (she'll be there after her Maxwell's hosting gig), Leonard Smalls teams up with DJ " I still don't own a mixer" Caligula (sign the petition here) . Saturday's big party will be at 660 Grand with a DJ team up for the late night knight Lex Leonard. Get in your taxi 660 grand is waiting for you, the party starts at midnight.

over billing
CMJ has rolled into town and luckily for some of our friends, the Jersey City Hotel has a late check out. On Tuesday Night, Jupiter One plays MercuryLounge, Higgins is at the Serious Business Showcase around the corner at Piano's, and The Golden Filter (Steve and Penny's from Lismore's new band) has just returned from Iceland and are playing the Stereogum Showcase at Webster Hall tonight and then play Santos Party House on Saturday Night. The Subway Surfers are battling the Badgers on Friday Night at Ottos, while Stuyvesant and The Neutron Drivers play the Trash Bar in Williamsburg. The overly full CMJ line-up is here.
On the home front, Tuesday's singer-songwriter showcase has Copasetic and Kiwi the Child, the bands start early at 8 pm and at 10 pm I will debut my first solo Tuesday gig at Luckys (damn that jukebox isn't getting any play these days). Tuesday Nights I will focus more on local musician so feel free to bring your rough cuts for a sampling. Plowing Mud Forever will open for Babyhole at the Lamp Post. Melissa is away so Ralph Santiago hosts. Your own stardom and free shots are at York Street Tavern's Tuesday Night Karaoke hosted by Freddy Fingers.
Wednesday should really be a learning experience with DJ Def Professah side kicking for Steff at the Lamp Post. Lucha DJ, who's Vinyl Solution Night, was abbreviated by the 13 inning Yankee's game last Saturday let's up some pent up songs spin at Luckys' on Wednesday.
In addition, to this Tuesday at Lucky's, I am also picking up Cootah's alternating Thursdays at the Lamp Post. Since both day begin with a "T" you can spend your "T" day with Dancing " T"ony. see how easy that works. Oh plus I am teaming up with Steff " Street Justice for this weeks Vinyl Solution. Local Arts Dude Roland Ramos is Playing the Brooklyn Academy of Music this Thursday @ 7:30pm. For the JT3 Artist foundation, Keynote speaker will be writer/director of"Defintely / Maybe" Adam Brooks. If your not in Brooklyn, You can see him perform @ Maxwells in Hoboken on Tuesday the 27th. And with the weather supposed to be perfect this Thursday, Octoberfest, sets up shop at Bar Majestic this Thursday.
Tuesday is almost done so I must check out -

back to business as usual ?
Well citizens. the dirty laundry pile keeps on growing here in JC and tonight's (W) Council meeting should be another display of public outcry (and apathy) over the recent modifications to the city council reserved parking spaces. Civictionists, One Jersey City continues to call for the resignation of Councilman Vega and Councilwoman Lopez, and object to the anointing of the Mayors' Special Aide to fill the now vacant Ward B Council spot. Tonight's meeting starts at 6 pm. This event is usually free, but rumours are now circulation that they may start charging an admission fee :) Hold on My mistake here, Jupiter One's show tonight at Radio City Hall is charging.
Free discussion will be on tap at Thursday Night's debate presented by the Left Forum. JC Resident Lenore Hulz, has organized a Presidential Debated Style discussion at Community Church of New York . I can't do the event justice, so here's her listing.
" Left Forum presents a debate between Tom Hayden, legendary 60's activist, founder of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and Progressives for Obama activist, Stanley Aronowitz, distinguished professor of Sociology, union organizer, and author of over 24 books and Cindy Milstein, anarchist organizer, writer and popular educator. These debaters will tackle the particular roles of capitalists’ power within and beyond the Obama campaign and administration -- an analysis found nowhere in Washington politics or mainstream media. Hayden, Aronowitz and Milstein will debate the impact of the power of capitalists as it relates to strategies for building Left alternatives."
After City Hall or Radio City Hall tonight, one of WFMU's finest representatives, DJ Terre T (The Cherry Blossom Clinic), will spin at the Lamp Post for Steff's DTJC night. Terri's show is legendary, hosting great live bands every Saturday from 3 to 6 pm. Terre T, will be assisted by Mike Sin ( no relation to Den-of ) Next Weekend, WFMU hosts their annual record fair from October 23rd to the 25th, just a note too that CMJ and about 1,000 bands roll into town next Tuesday. Hope there are enough couches in Brooklyn :)
Tonight at Lucky's, DJ Sub Babes has Lucky's tonight. His alternating Wednesday Partner, Pat Byrne, DJ Lucha will appear unmasked for this Saturday's Vinyl Solution at the White Star. Leonard Smalls will celebrate Amy's birthday and mark the end of his Pharmaceutical Green Giant Wythe with special guest DJ's. Almost a special guest DJ himself, DJ Alfonse (Cootah) will be spinning at the Lamp Post on Thursday Night.
The Powerhouse Art's District newest business, the Warehouse (based on location not size :) has begun their Movies on the Wall series on Thursday Nights at 7:30. Film lover, and Atelier Productions master Iulian Moise reels out Bonnie and Clyde for this installment. Also on Saturday Night oops i had listed ths as Thursday , Halloween spookiness begins at Made with Love for their opening reception for " Boo Bat and Pumpkin : Illustrations from the Children's book by Ashley Lucas. You can bring the kids for this one :) Made with Love also started serving weekend Brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 to 6 pm. Sundays are coupled with a DJ Vinny from noon to 4 pm. Check out her full schedule here
On Friday Night, Fortoul artists, Isaac Fortoul, Bobby Castaneda and Heather Gargon. will celebrate SOHO's Blue in Green 4th Anniversary. With a sushi chef and award winning sake it's no wonder that Flaunt Magazine (USA) & LUSSW (Japan) will be on hand in this quaint SOHO space. DJ Finesse spins it for you. Also in teh City on Friday Night, Dan Green (Kilsy The Honey Brothers ) plays at Mercury Lounge with Andrew Vladeck and his all-star big band with members of The Honey Brothers, The Prigs, Coulon, and Balthrop, Alabama. Dan's got another gig with the Lone Howdies on Sunday Night at Spike Hill in the Burg. On Sunday Night, Jody Porter the Black Swans plays at Mercury Lounge, Black Swan, Dan Haag, returns with the Campbell Apartment on Monday Night, only to be followed by Jupiter One for Tuesday Night's CMJ Showcase.
In our stage strifed town, Saturday Night has alt-country aka folk\Indie\country Asbury Park's the Amboys and the Front Bottoms at the Lamp Post. DJ Mark-ewok joins Leonard Smalls on Saturday Night.
Sunday is the Hoboken's Art Studio Tour, the one day event runs from noon to 6 pm. Looking to un-do the Jersey City's two day event, Hoboken Art Studio Tour is billed as " A Free City-Wide Self-Guided Walking Tour of Artists’ Studios & Community Gallery Spaces" thanks for the tip, I may hitchhike. You can also visit THE TIME BEING this Sunday . Our take on the convergence of time and place and what constitutes "history". 78 Sussex Street, in Paulus Hook, Downtown Jersey City. 12-4pm. Catalog and small framed prints available. Visit Loura van der Meule's studio.

Talk with my hand not with the Facebook
It's Day 4 of "site maintenance" for my Facebook profile all I can say is that I didn't touch a thing , or as we say in Jersey City "it wasn't me". Fow now, I am just sticking with the Jersey City Independent for my news worthiness and gossip, oh wait this just in ... Jersey City is down a councilman (Ward B Phil Kenny) and Mariano Vega "temporarily" resigned his position as President of the Council. You know this is all over money, and the sad part is that while so many artists hustled for every dollar to make this years Art Studio Tour, merely having a portion of the funds that were allegedly passed on to the politicians could have funded most of these weekend events. That's OK we shouldn't be too pissed right ? yeah right !
So. thanks again to everyone who came out to support, Masks of God, the 4th Street Art and Music Festival, The Harimus Cove Cemetery Fundraiser, Vital Voices, Exquisite Corpse, Boxed, The Time Being, Raw Power, Boxed, NYKYTOMORPH, Boxed, Battered Bunnies, and all of the shows and exhibits for the Art Tour. YOU MAKE AND MADE IT HAPPEN. That's why we struggle and why we hustle.
You can relax a little easy tonight (R) and get out and do some enjoyables, I'll get back to my tirade parade later. 58's life drawing class starts at 7:30 pm, bring your pencil end drawing pad and happily hang out with a bunch of poses. If you didn't catch the Mike Ferrari solo show at Paul Vincent Gallery on Sunday, you can cruise to this border bound gallery tonight and keep in mind that will also open for the Hoboken Art Studio Tour on October 18th, with onelast gasp I will also remind you that Paul Vincent also hosts their own life drawing classes every Tuesday Night, time for me to pull the plug on this one.
What about me, what am I doing tonight ? Well I was going to stay home and stew, but instead I've got a roast brewing for Autumn's birthday tonight at the Lamp Post, her babe birthday train should run though at some point, perhaps after stopping at Lucky's for a Ladies Special ?
The Grove Street PATH will still be in and art creative format on Fridays, Uta and her vendors will keep this going into the Happy Holidays :) On Friday Night, Battered Bunny maker Megan Gulick presents a Human Marvels art show at the 32 jones Gallery near JSQ. In the downtown, the Stockinette Comedy Night returns for $3 they guarantee to put the funny where your mouth is. Until Caligula (aka Jessie) gets a mixers I won't be plugging his night at the Lamp Post on Fridays. Matt Maragno , Jessimae Peluso and Andrew Martinez perfprm plus 4th Street Stage Hosts s Trip & Fall, aka Alissa Ahlberg and Sarah Roxanne Shields will be on routine. You can also venture into teh city for Another Man's Treasure at the Manhattan Vintage Show ( Metropolitan Pavilion 125 W. 18th Street b/t 6th & 7th Avenues : Oct 9 (Fri):1pm - 8pmOct 10 (Sat): 11am - 6pm.
Saturday. My roommate DJ William McCamie is waxing pro-hectic at the Vinyl Solution, the Frozen Gentlemen and Go Kat Go play the Lamp Post. Must be a little quite for Columbus. Come in Facebook. No you can wait I am done.

Gather My Thoughts and Troupes
I know it's four days after the fact, but let me just say thanks again to everyone who participated in last weekend's kickball Olympics. The pains and aches that some of you are still feeling helped raise over $500 for the Learning Community Charter School. Here are Erin (Kickin it Old School) and Kirk (Zombie Apocalypse) Picture Links. As I previously may have mentioned or boasted my team, the Kunstballers (58 Gallery ) took the Gold, and then liquidated it at the White Star immediately afterwards. Easy Riders again took the Silver, while the We Love Cheese under the direction of the leadership of the Reverend Al Sharp Cheddar got Bronzed. we love cheese spirited play garnered them some Nine Lives skate shop's I Love JC gear. Thanks again to the Jersey City Tattoo Company , Balance Hair Salon. , Easy Riders , Grove Street Bikes, Another Man's Treasure , 58 Gallery and Boomerangs for their prizes. Betty from Boomerangs let me know that her store is almost completely empty. Look for some special Garage Sales at 58 in October.
Locally, Made with Love Organics has begun serving brunch on the weekends and is offering Grab n Go dinner specials. Tonight (R), there is a special Communal Dinner, with Jazzman Brendan Kibbee entertaining. On Saturday Night, Ace Case plays in. Tonight (R), I am back at the Lamppost, my little bro, Cootah. He is busy readying JC for next Saturday's 4th Street Art and Music Festival. There 18 live acts on two stages and hundreds of artist taking part in the clearly an anchor event of the Jersey City Art Studio Tour. Friday's Official Kick-off Celebration is at Grace Church (who is hosting members of tour organizers Pro Arts). 58's Annual Group show, Masks of Gods, curated by Brenda Buck and Grant Worth, Friday at 7 pm. There will plenty to see and to make it easy on your feet. Easy Riders is offering a special Art Tour Package. Let me pull back because I am getting again of this game...
Okay when I last tangent-ed, we were talking about Thursday, Jersey City's Ladies Night. Barrow Bar, and of Course Lucky Seven's Leonard Smalls will treat you right. Tonight's drinking honors Melissa Surach, who was recognized at last night's City Council meeting for her contribution the arts and Jersey City. I guess now it official now and when people say "Jersey City is a joke", we can at least say that we have a mascot ! Congrats Melissa ! Babyhole is back at the Lamp Post until IMAC reopens for the 2012 Olympics.
Friday Night's ladies recognition starts with the return of the Garden State Rollergirls to the match circuit. Their all star unit, The Iron bound Maidens skate against the Pioneer Valley squad. This bout is an alternating double header with the men's roller Derby team, The New York Shock Exchange battling against Pioneer Valley's Dirty Dozen.
A not as competitive Cake Fight takes place at Port-o-lounge for Lucky Sevens Bartender, Lena, celebrating her 25th on the 25th with DJ Motor Funker . Word out that she won't be the only celebPretty in a birthday suit though, it's double trouble when Christine noGoodman shows. In Williamsburg, Jupiter One, has their CD release party for Sunshowers. They've got the headline spot that night, then they ride shotgun for the Regina Spector tour. Congrats guys. have Fun. It's Hells Yeah at LITM, Caligula at Lamp Post, and Jason at Bar Majestic.
Saturday looks to be the sunniest of the weekend, so Volleyballers should report for duty at about 1 pm for set up. We are running out of sunlight, and the 6 hours of sunlight you just slept through got tired of waiting. again One o'clock. Night crawlers can catch Thomas Francis Takes his Chances and an equally verbosely named Strange Things done in the Midnight Sun combine for the two longest named bands to ever perform at the Lamppost. Thankfully, the Lamppost has no Marquee. In Newark, another long bill of No Pasaran, WJ and The Sweet Sacrifice will get all essexy playing with the Frozen Gentlemen and Zed Never at Kilkenny's Ale House. A shorter a sweeter story will unfold at Lucky Sevens on Saturday Night when alice 'n sophia guest DJ's with Leonard Smalls.
Leonard Smalls, Freddy Fingers (York Tavern Tuesdays) and I are all DJ-ing Sunday's Battalion Benefit for fallen Jersey City Detective Marc diNardo. Edward's Steakhouse hosts this Charity Fundraiser Cookout to benefit the Detective Marc DiNardo Memorial Fund, with a cook out featuring the grilling skills of Police Chief Comey and Fire Chief O’Rielly. Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Chicken Sandwiches, Beer (Budweiser, Bud Light, Stella Artois,& Bass Ale), Wine, & Soda will be served.

You're the one for me Matty
Olympic Kickball returns to Enos Jones Field this weekend. With the undefeated White Star Team in China, the playground is open for any of seven teams to raise Gold. The two day competition is a benefit for Jersey City's Learning Community Charter School. Saturday's Qualifiers start at 12:30 with Kickin it Old School playing newcomers, The Neutronic Ninjas. The Ninjas and some of the other teams are still looking to recruit extra players, there's a kickball draft for nomads at 11:30 and then open practice until the first game. Anyyways, just show up and we'll see what we can do, careers in score keeping, refereeing and field engineering await you. On Sunday, the six top teams will compete for Gold (aka a $100 gift certificate from the White Star,) Tournament MVP's will get gift certificates from the Jersey City Tattoo Company , and a free haircut from Balance Hair Salon. with Nine Lives skate shop's putting up I Love JC merch for the most spirited players/cheerleaders. This is all about fun and event sponsors, Easy Riders , Grove Street Bikes, Another Man's Treasure , Boomerangs, and 58 Gallery have consolation prizes for the less fortunate. Consolation and celebration will also be available at the White Star both days with drink specials for teams. At the end of Saturdays matches, DJ Motor Funker take his first spin at the Vinyl Solution. At Luckys's Trip and Falle, DJ Pants aka Sara spins her birthday set with Leonard Smalls. The Lamp is Posted with a Ever Reviled Evening featuring Nathan Carpenter and Darren Deceide.
Earlier on Saturday, the JC Craft Mafia has a supply swap at the Stockinette from 4 to 5 pm. A group of Jersey City artists are also on the walls for the " I love my Life " show at the new Eureka Gallery in Hoboken. The show is curated by Rolando Ramos, of Artifications and Other Jam fame. DJ Purple Stuff Kevin Spyker spins you in and out. Things start at 7 pm .
Sunday volleyball is still on, but I won't be fixing any kickball games to make it there though. After we crown the kickball champs, it's time to wind down or wind up with DJ Bill McCamie at Lucky Sevens Industry Night.
Hope to see you all tomorrow.
I miss you my Matty Girl

Tonight(T) or also known as as we speak, The Paul Vincent Gallery continues their weekly Life Drawing Classes. Melisa Surach's Babyhole, will be held exile on the second floor of the Iron Monkey. Adopting a late-night approach to her program, Ms. Surach has conscripted Snowball 37 as Tuesday Nights house and warm-up band. The comedy starts at 10 pm with six slots available for the willing, special guests, Dave Angelo and Bredan Fitzgibbons keep things legit and musical comedy powerhouse Ike and Mike the Perfect 10 roll you too. Melissa's uncomfortable comedy routines sometime make you feel like you just kissed your cousin, but don't worry not every sketch is like a tongue kiss :) plus, plus The Iron Monkey rooftop will also have a secretive meeting of WFMU's "Best Show" enthusiasts and radio guest for the clan-destined of the Friends of Tom club.
Across town, talent will be crooning at Luckys Seven's with live music and the Lamp Posts' open mike Talent Show hosted by Kevin Spyker. The stage is set, come play it.....
Wednesday's live entertainment, will be served at this week's city council meeting. The proposed Redevelopment Pay-to-Play Reform Ordinance, drafted by Civic JC and Citizens' Campaign, proposed by Councilman Steven Fulop and unanimously voted to be introduced on the first reading by the municipal council is on the council agenda for second reading, public hearing and possible vote. The ordinance was first introduced (and almost unanimously rejected) two years ago. Now with Councilwoman Nida Lopez on the grill for filing taxes returns under two different names in two different states and Council President Mariano's Vega'$ problems, the call for reforms has grown. There's a planned pre-rally at 5:30 for the 6 pm meeting.
After the council votes on renaming Newark Avenue Dancing Tony Way, quietly shuffle out the wood doors and make your way to your gig at the Stockinette for the Hominid's Season Ender. Jack Parson's Moon Children , Colin Comstack and Chris Nye host what may be the Grand Finale (Jack Parsons Moon Child a plays Thursday September 17th at the Alphabet Lounge.) Also looking to leave Jersey City, Any Day Parade will be breaking up tonight !! really, but don't cry in your beer, this just means that ADP Drummer, Pat Byrne (DJ Lucha) spins at Luckys with ADP guest DJs, and ADP bass player Chuck Daly is spinning at the Lamp Post.
You won't have to worry about missing Groove on Grove this Wednesday, we've moved the show to JC Friday with LITM serving their summer lemonade and Bar Majestic filling in the gaps. Regularly, I am forced to go up against the Sir Charles, but the good forces of network Television have me teaming up with him for this special Ladies Night then we seal the deal on Saturday at Luckys for my pre-birthday DJ set. It's all part of the birthday week philsophy.
Thursday Night takes WJ and the Sweet Sacrifice to Arlene's grocery for benefit for Adrianna Cavanagh, a 2 year old girl recently diagnosed with cancer. WJ plays at 11 pm with friends Katy Mae at 10pm.
JC Fridays is worthy of a full post, but for me to do so would divert another 4 hours away from my 2007 apartment reorganization Master Plan. Plus here the full list . There are a couple added bonuses for JC Fridays, THE WAREHOUSE a new art/event space at 140 Bay Street , in the Powerhouse opens its doors to present “Bird Minus Fish.” Conceptual design by Atelier Production (StockinetteOx Events). Labor Daze
Okay all of you fans of drawing, sketching, char coaling, painting naked people. This week, three of your local life drawing classes are working together on an Exquisite Corpse drawing Project and fundraiser. Tonight's (R) Life Drawing at Paul Vincent Studios, 58's Thursday Life Drawing Class [correction there is no drawing class at the Lex Leonard Gallery this friday ] will all dedicate the final 20 minutes of their classes to allow artists to draw either a head, torso, or legs to be used for the project. The event is a benefit for Peace by Piece Studio. For more information please contact the Tina Maneca at Manecatin (at) hotmail.com. Rumor has it that Jersey City Craft Mafia is also involved so please be careful :). And for those needing more bodies of proof check out next Saturday's (9/12) exhibit at the Jonathan Levine Gallery, London artist d*face, will be "Re-interpreting the exquisite corpse concept, each piece in Ludovico Aversion Therapy features a singular composite subject created using an amalgamation of various branded corporate identity mascots combined with classic superhero characters, interspersed with typography derived from comic book art and advertising." I ope that cleared things up in your head.
The completed Exquisite Corpse works will be on display during the Jersey City Art Studio Tour Weekend October 3 -5th. For an afterward, Steff has recruited Chico Mann's Marcos Garcia to spin for the GonG after party at Lamppost while DJ Sup Babes has Luckys undercover.

See What's Here | And Be Proud of It
The fields of Jersey City's Liberty National Golf Club will be even more selective this week for The Barclay's PGA Tournament. You can still score some tickets to get in, but I have a feeling this won't be as easy as bribing the gate guy at All Points West. Don't worry though, the city is rolling out the hospitality art-pets again, or More Importantly, Art House Productions has crafted and co-ordinated a See What's Hear Festival for our khaki pant pals. So tonight (T) , if you think Tiger Woods is heckling Melissa Surach tonight at Babyhole it could be him (or most likely just be an impostor looking to get himself a birdie off the green).
While the golf masters battle it out for the $7.5 million dollar prize, The Rainbow flag that was raised at City Hall on Monday Night will continue to fly in honor of Jersey City's thriving Gay and Lesbian Community. This year JCLGO celebrates the Ninth Annual Pride Week that culminates this Saturday with the Pride Festival at Exchange Place. Click this link for the weeks full schedule.
On Wednesday, a Tango of Two Guitars will showcase the dueling and duality of guitarists Daniel Lippel and Martin Moretto at Groove on Grove. The weather is expected to be clear, so this Wednesday's show would make a great pre- picnic before Van Vorst Park's presentation of Wall-E. As part of Pride Week, the Chillfest Movie Series has a special show at IMAC on Wednesday Night too. Subway Surfer's Larry Mopar spins for Steff and the Lucha DJ is at Luckys.
Thursday Night, WJ and the Sweet Sacrifice play an early show at famed Santos Party House. They are first up on a four band bill get there at 6:30 they play at 7 pm. At 7 :30 pm Jersey City Time, 58's Life Drawing Class starts. This Weeks session is hosted by Thomas J Carlson. Afterward, My roommate Dj William McCamie celebrates the release of his new CD at Port-o Portuguese Lounge and Tapas Bar on Newark (it's the newspot by Sovereign Bank). Guest DJ's including myself spin from 9 to midnight and then Bill has the rest of the night. Around the corner ladies can flock to Leonard Smalls at Luckys or Coots MgGoots at LP.
